Nach dem altersbedingten Ausscheiden von Michael Kießling tritt der 40-jährige Sebastian Faber aus Herrnhut die Nachfolge an. Er arbeitet als gelernter Mediengestalter in der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der Brüder-Unität und seit Januar 2024 zusätzlich im Bereich Digitalisierung und Haustechnik im Unitätsarchiv in Herrnhut. Wir freuen uns, ihn bei uns als neuen Mitarbeiter begrüßen zu dürfen.

Sebastian Faber from Herrnhut, 40 years old, has taken over the role of Michael Kießling who recently retired. He is a trained media designer and works in the public relations department of the Moravian Church and since January 2024 has also been working in the area of digitisation and building services in the Unity Archives. We are delighted to be able to welcome him as our new colleague.

Am 8. Januar 2024 ging Karin Wiedemann im Alter von 70 Jahren heim. Nach ihrem Dienst in der Brüder-Unität an der Schule in Tossens, als Gemeinhelferin in Bad Boll und als Losungsbearbeiterin in Herrnhut arbeitete sie in ihrem Ruhestand aktiv im Vorstand des Archivvereins mit und war von 2017-2021 dessen Vorsitzende. Mit ihrer klugen und humorvollen Art hat sie bis zum Schluss viel Gutes für das Unitätsarchiv bewirken können und bleibt uns in sehr dankbarer Erinnerung. 

On January 8, 2024, Karin Wiedemann passed away at the age of 70. After working for the Moravian Church, at the school in Tossens and as a congregation helper in Bad Boll and after having worked on the Daily Text Books in Herrnhut, she played an important role on the board of the Friends’ Association of the Unity Archives after her retirement and was its chairperson from 2017-2021. With her wise and humorous manner, she was able to accomplish a great deal for the Unity Archives until her passing and remains with us in fond memories.

Mit dem Verlass der Generalsynode 1848 beginnen wir, die Reihe der offiziellen Dokumente der Generalsynoden der Brüder-Unität digital auf unserer Website zu veröffentlichen. Das Projekt beinhaltet zunächst die Verlässe (= Kirchenordnung und Beschlüsse) bis zur letzten Generalsynode vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, jeweils in Deutsch und Englisch. In einem zweiten Schritt sollen dann die Beschlüsse der Unitätssynoden seit 1957 folgen und schließlich auch die Verlässe der Generalsynoden von 1764 bis 1836, die bislang nur als Manuskripte vorliegen.
Die Synode von 1848 markiert in mehrfacher Hinsicht einen Wendepunkt in der Verfassungsgeschichte der Brüder-Unität: nach dieser Synode wurde zum ersten Mal eine englischsprachige Version des Verlasses veröffentlicht, der Präses der Synode, Johann Gottlieb Herrmann (1789-1854) war zum ersten Mal ein Bruder, der zwar noch in Deutschland geboren worden war, die meiste Zeit seines Lebens aber in England und Amerika verbracht hatte, schließlich begann in der Zeit nach 1848 auch eine Entwicklung, die dann 1857 mit der Einrichtung der Unitätsprovinzen zur grundlegenden Reform der Verfassung führen sollte.

Results of the Synod - ONLINE

With the Results of the General Synod of 1848, we begin to publish the series of official documents of the General Synods of the Moravian Church digitally on our website. The project includes the “Results” (= Church Order and resolutions) up to the last General Synod before the Second World War, equally in German and English. In a second step, the resolutions of the Unity Synods since 1957 will follow and finally the results of the General Synods from 1764 to 1836, which are currently only available as manuscripts.
The Synod of 1848 marked a turning point in the constitutional history of the Moravian Church: after the synod, a version of the “Results” was printed in English for the first time. Secondly, the Chairman of the Synod was Johann Gottlieb Herrmann (1789-1854), a member of the church board who had spent most of his life in England and America. Finally, a development began in the period after 1848 that led to the fundamental reform of the constitution in 1857 with the establishment of the independent church provinces of the Moravian Church.

Der diesjährige Archivtag wird im Jubiläumsjahr von »300 Jahre Schulen und Bildung in der Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine« gemeinsam veranstaltet vom Unitätsarchiv, Archivverein und den Ev. Zinzendorfschulen Herrnhut. Prof. Pia Schmid aus Frankfurt am Main wird uns einen Vortrag halten über die Pädagogik der Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine 1727-1830, wie sie sich in Lebensläufen zeigt. Am Nachmittag bieten wir eine Führung in den Ev. Zinzendorfschulen und ein Podiumsgespräch über die spannende Vorgeschichte der Gründung der heutigen Ev. Zinzendorfschulen in Herrnhut an. Wir freuen uns darauf und laden alle Interessierten in der Zeit von 10:00 bis ca. 16:30 Uhr in das Unitätsarchiv und anschließend in die Ev. Zinzendorfschulen ein.

This year's Archives’ Day, organised  by the Unity Archives, the Friends’ Association and the Ev. Zinzendorfschulen Herrnhut will take place under the anniversary years banner of »300 Year Anniversary of Schools and Education in the Renewed Moravian Church«. Prof Pia Schmid from Frankfurt am Main is going to present a lecture on the educational methods of the Moravian Church from 1727 to 1830, as reflected in the memoirs. In the afternoon, we will offer a guided tour through the schools and we hold a panel discussion on the fascinating history of the founding of today's Ev. Zinzendorfschulen in Herrnhut. We look forward to this and invite all those interested to come to the Unity Archives and then on to the Ev. Zinzendorfschulen from 10am to approx. 4:30pm.

In diesem Jahr lädt das Unitätsarchiv, der Archivverein und die Ev. Zinzendorfschulen gemeinsam zu insg. fünf Vorträgen zum Thema »300 Jahre Schulen und Bildung in der Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine« ein.
