| | | Das Unitätsarchiv und die Unitätsprovinz Jamaika und Kaiman-Inseln
The Unity Archives and Moravian Church in Jamaica and Cayman Islands Das Wirken der Brüder-Unität auf Jamaika begann 1754, nachdem zwei britische Plantagenbesitzer, die in London Kontakt zu Zinzendorf aufgebaut hatten, zur Missionsarbeit auf ihrem Land auf Jamaika eingeladen hatten. Unter der Leitung von Zacharias Georg Caries wurde in der Nähe der Plantage The Bogue die Station Carmel gegründet. Die Jamaika betreffenden Akten im Unitätsarchiv befinden sich für die Zeit von 1754 bis 1900 im Bestand des Missionsdepartements der Unitäts-Ältestenkonferenz (R.15), für die Zeit von 1900 bis 1931 im Bestand der Missionsdirektion (MD), die Unterlagen zur Finanzverwaltung im Bestand MDF. Neben einigen Unterlagen aus der Anfangszeit der Mission auf Jamaika enthalten die Bestände vor allem serielle Akten: Diarien, Protokolle, Schriftwechsel, Jahresberichte, Rechnungsunterlagen. Zu den wertvollen Diarien gehören das private Diarium von Zacharias Georg Caries, die Diarien der einzelnen Missionsstationen bzw. der Gemeinden (Carmel, Mesopotamia, The Bogue, Island Estate, Aberdeen, Beaufort, Bethabara, Patricktown, Bethany, Cariesbrook, Dober, New Eden, New Fairfield, Fulnek, New Hope, Salem, Irwinhill, Lititz, Ballards Valley, Mizpah, Broadleaf, Springfield u.a.) oder auch eine größere Anzahl von Reisediarien der Missionare. Ergänzend dazu enthält auch die Topographischen Sammlung (TS) eine größere Anzahl von Abbildungen, Karten und Plänen. Alle diese Bestände können mithilfe unserer Online-Findmittel recherchiert werden.
The missionary work of the Unitas Fratrum in Jamaica began in 1754 after two British plantation owners, who had contacts with Zinzendorf in London, had invited missionaries to work on their land in Jamaica. Under the direction of Zacharias Georg Caries, the mission station of Carmel was founded near the plantation The Bogue. The Unity Archives' records concerning Jamaica are for the period 1754-1900 in the inventory of the Mission-Department of the Unity Elder's Conference (record group R.15), for the period 1900-1931 in the inventory of the Mission-Direction (record group MD). Records pertaining to financial management are in the record group MDF. In addition to some documents from the early days of the mission in Jamaica, the inventories mainly contain serial files: diaries, minutes, correspondence, annual reports, accounting documents. Among the valuable diaries are the private diary of Zacharias Georg Caries, the diaries of the individual mission stations or congregations (such as Carmel, Mesopotamia, The Bogue, Island Estate, Aberdeen, Beaufort, Bethabara, Patricktown, Bethany, Cariesbrook, Dober, New Eden, New Fairfield, Fulnek, New Hope, Salem, Irwinhill, Lititz, Ballards Valley, Mizpah, Broadleaf, Springfield, and many others), as well as an even larger number of missionary travel diaries. Interesting supplementary documents may be found in the Topographical Collection (TS), which contains a large number of illustrations, maps, and plans. All of these record groups can be researched using our online searching aids. |

| | | Erneuerung der Elektrik
Refurbishment of the electrical system Im Altbau des Unitätsarchivs sind immer wieder Instandhaltungsmaßnahmen notwendig. Schrittweise werden aus Gründen des Brandschutzes elektrische Leitungen erneuert. Im Januar diesen Jahres konnte der Raum, der viele Jahre die Buchbinderei des Unitätsarchivs beherbergt hatte, mit neuen Leitungen versehen und anschließend renoviert werden. Der Raum dient heute als Zuschneideraum für Umverpackungen sowie als Büroraum für Praktikanten und ehrenamtliche Mitarbeiter.
In the old Archives building there are various problems that require repair. Step by step we are renewing electrical equipment to ensure they meet fire protection standards. This January, we were able to remove the obsolete and dangerous electricity system in the old bookbinder's studio. Today the room is used as a space for repackaging as well as an office room for trainees and volunteers. |
